A Seat at the Table: Post-Election Thoughts

Disclaimer: From the depths of my ancestors soul, fuck you if you voted for that man, and if you didn't vote for him, hey boo lol.

"Black girls are made of steel and lace. Beautiful as we are tough, soft as we are strong." — Unknown

It's been two weeks since the election results and the aftermath is just beginning.

Day One (the day after the results) was a day of mourning. Ninety-two percent of black women and other sound-minded individuals spent the day crying and worrying about our fate. Personally, I spent most of the day crying and thinking to myself, they have no idea what they've done by voting for him. Day one was draining, heavy, exhausting, and disappointing.

Day two and so forth have been entertaining and liberating.

The black community rejects the label of being part of the POC community, echoing Kendrick's sentiment that "They not like us". Additionally, black women became one band one sound by stepping back from causes and issues that doesn't pertain or directly impact our community. Finally, the community went back to Starbucks and other establishments that donated to Palestine. For the first time since George Floyd's death the community was coming together and standing on business.

Sidebar: Following the peak of the BLM movement in 2020, I decided not to engage in boycotts or show interest in causes that did not directly affect the community. While I did not wish harm upon marginalized groups, I believed that if they weren't with us shooting in the gym (did not demonstrate support or solidarity), I saw no purpose in advocating for other causes.

The silver lining

  1. Black women supported Kamala with love, grace, and encouragement as she ran a high-quality campaign in just 100 days.

  2. I’m at peace knowing 92% of black women and 80% of black men voted for her. When it mattered the most we came together, and she can walk away knowing the black community was rooting for her.

  3. No matter what the future holds black women can no longer be the convenient scapegoat or punching bag.

  4. What hurts the most is, “in the club we’re not all fam.” However, black women can take a break and distance themselves as the rest of the POC community, apart from the black community, supported that man through their votes.

  5. Despite being tiring and frustrating, black women are accustomed to doing whatever is necessary to survive and thrive. In all honesty, will any of his policies or plans affect us as significantly as they will affect those who foolishly believe they are white adjacent?

  6. If I had to do it all again I would choose to be a black woman every time.

  7. It's interesting to watch other people crash out every time he elects a new member of his cabinet, as if they expected better from a 34 time convicted felon, rapist, and reality star. Although I don't foresee him being in office for the next four years, I hope everybody who voted him from gets the life they rightly deserve. Sometimes people have to learn the hard way and clearly most people didn't learn from his previous term.

The aftermath

  • Unfollowing Trump supporters. I'm not surprised that some influencers or celebrities voted for him. Their decision to remain silence during and after the election said enough. Thankfully I built my for you page and other platforms brick by brick and the black creators I enjoy watching didn't betray the community.

  • As of Nov. 6th it's okay if you view the people who voted for him as an opp. Personally I don't fool with the enemy, and yes it's that serious. To anybody who feels like politics shouldn't ruin relationships haven't considered everything that man stands for. He's a rapist (settled a $5 million lawsuit in May), a 34 time convicted felon, impeached twice during his former presidency, and prior to 2016 he didn't have political experience. So much was at stake this time (reproductive rights, the education system etc.) meaning if somebody you know voted for him essentially voted against you if your not a white male, your more than justified to stop associating with them. Thus far, I've deleted three people because they were following his ass on IG but other than that the people around me understood the assignment.

  • If anybody believes that politics should not interfere with relationships, they may not have fully grasped the implications of supporting a man with a shiesty background. He has a history of serious allegations, including being a rapist who settled a $5 million lawsuit in May, being a 34-time convicted felon, and facing impeachment twice during his previous presidency. Furthermore, before 2016, he lacked any political experience. Given the high stakes involved in issues such as reproductive rights and the education system, if someone you know voted for him, they effectively voted against you unless you are a white male. It's completely understandable to distance yourself from them.

Stimulus Checks + The Economy

Let's clarify this because I'm liable to crash out if I hear anything else about the economy and those stimulus checks. Congress controls the funds, not the president, and he delayed when the checks would have been issued so he could take credit for it. $1200 wasn't life-changing, and the checks were pandemic-related. Unless something catastrophic happens, nobody will receive free money again, and was it really free seeing as inflation occurred shortly after. Silly rabbit tricks are for kids, and he managed to trick over half of the population into him being the 47th president.

Allegedly, many people voted for him based on the economy during his term. However, the former president inherits the economy and decisions of their predecessor. Biden inherited the mess from Trump, who inherited a stable economy from Obama. The 2016-2020 economy was due to Obama and the current economic issues are due to Trump's presidential term.

Furthermore, I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how their quality of life improved during his time in office. Between the stimulus checks, unemployment, and the PPL loans everybody had access to money yet most people's lives doesn't reflect the better life they proclaimed to have during his term. It's also interesting to watch people crash out when he mentioned his plans to increase tarifs.

Beware of the Karens: Blue Bracelet Brigade & FAFO Movement

I built my fyp so well that I don't see white creators or anything related to them until some of the black creators I follow enlightened the timeline of what the Karens were up to now. So during week one they were crying and wanting black women to believe that some of them didn't vote for Trump. Fortunately, black women didn't give a fuck about their tears. White women tears has inflicted harm and problems on the community, as exemplified by the case of Emmitt Till and Central Park Five.

Now, let's have a moment of silence for the bullshit and gaslighting they came up with when the tears didn't work. Respectfully what the fuck is a blue bracelet going to do for the community. The best idea they could come up with to demonstrate support and solidarity for black women is to visit the closest arts and crafts store and buy blue bracelets. It's giving performative. It's giving your an opp in sheeps clothing. It's giving whenever it's convenient they'll snatch those blue bracelets off and turn into a Karen. It's giving go away from me with that Apollo (RHOA reference).

Deep breath...let me simmer down. Even if they mean well, a bracelet doesn't repair the damage that has been done by voting for that man. I wish other POC and the white community would find productive ways to express their allegiance. For example, support black owned business or host a fundraiser and donate the funds to a black owned organization. I would actually prefer if they talk to their family members, friends, colleagues, etc. and tell them to stop killing, harassing, and creating difficulties for the community. Until I see their white asses in the field and not online running their mouths I don't give a fuck about what they have to say or how they feel.

Currently some white woman has started a fuck around and find out movement and spreading the false idea that black women are plotting to attack white women who supported him. First off, titling a movement based off a for the culture statement is nasty work. Secondly, to blatantly lie without any receipts is deranged and crash out behavior. Black women haven't posed any threats. In fact we have repeatedly requested for them to stop bothering us, but instead of respecting our wishes, they've persisted in behaving in the typical Karen manner. I don't think all white women are the enemy because some of them did not vote for him according to the stats. However, for safety reasons, I recommend that black women minimize their interactions with white women, especially the ones who give off Karen vibes.

The wrap up

I am uncertain about what lies ahead, but it is important for us to stay alert, begin making use of the resources available to us, and remain a strong community. Shortly after the election a black creator named Aniya started black project 2025, and it has potential to be another black wall street. Our ancestors did it before and we can do it. Remember we are our ancestors wildest dreams.
